The Guinea Pigs

We have two Guinea Pigs who our children named Ronaldo and Messi.

Animals in school have been proven to have many positive impacts on children, such as teaching responsibility, emotional development and building self esteem.

There are many reasons and benefits for keeping animals in school:

  • They allow children with limited or no exposure to animals in their home environment to see, feel, touch and make connections to the world of animals.
  • They give children a chance to observe and care for an animal, which instills a sense of responsibility and respect for life.
  • A pet brings increased sensitivity and awareness of the feelings and needs of others.
  • Children learn that all living things need more than just food and water for survival.
  • Studies show that the presence of animals often provides emotional stability.

Another reason for having the guinea pigs is to give children the experience of looking after a pet, without actually owning one. With this in mind, we will be offering families in the school the chance to have the guinea pigs for a weekend or holiday period in your home. We will provide a cage, food and necessary bedding and toys, as well as a carry home box to transport them to your home. All you have to do is look after them, enjoy having them at your house and give them lots of love; if you would like to take part in this opportunity, please speak with Mrs Lunn or Ms Ahmad in the Pastoral Team. Once your date for having the guinea pigs has been confirmed pop into the school on your chosen Friday to pick up everything needed.
